Minnesota State University Moorhead’s Master of Social Work (MSW) provides expertise beyond a generalist degree by developing advanced practice skills and knowledge that meet in-demand regional workforce needs for MSW professionals. MSUM’s program offers unique specializations not offered elsewhere in the Minnesota university system that set our candidates apart after graduation: Multicultural Clinical and Social Change & Leadership. If you have an undergraduate social work degree, you may be eligible for advanced standing which would help you graduate sooner.

The Council on Social Work Education has continually accredited MSUM's undergraduate social work degree since 1973, which is the first year they started accrediting undergraduate programs.
MSUM's MSW was ranked among the Best Master Of Social Work Online Programs Of 2024 by Forbes Advisor. Of the 10 ranked programs, it is the only program listed from Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

If you have a Bachelor of Social Work from an accredited university, you qualify for Advanced Standing. This allows you to focus on building skills and knowledge you already have from your BSW while graduating in a shorter time frame.
