Mission
MSUM’s Cheryl Nelson Lossett Performing Arts Series is dedicated to enhancing the quality of the region's cultural life. The Series maintains high artistic standards, presenting culturally diverse and stylistically expansive programming and showcasing some of the best available national and international performers and productions. The series operates with the added goal of educating and building audiences for the performing arts by reaching out to diverse constituencies, and by creating outreach projects organized in collaboration with local and regional art and education organizations.
Education
Minnesota State University Moorhead's Cheryl Nelson Lossett Performing Arts Series continues to be proactive in reaching out to the Fargo-Moorhead community and the surrounding region. Collaborations with community arts organizations and public school systems create outstanding educational arts experiences for the area's elementary, secondary and university students and teachers.
Educational Opportunities through the Cheryl Nelson Lossett Performing Arts Series
Ragamala Dance Company presents a free, hour-long workshop for community members of all ages. The family-friendly event takes place Saturday, October 16, at 1 p.m. in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts. Participants will learn about the history and background of Kolam -- intricate designs made of rice flour on the ground in front of the main entrances to their homes. Participants learn to draw several Kolam designs on paper, and then create them with rice flour on the floor to experience the traditional method. Please register with Rebecca Sundet-Schoenwald at 218.477.2178 by 12 p.m. (noon) on Thursday, October 8, 2021. Drop-ins are welcome if space remains available.
The Minneapolis Guitar Quartet will present a free guitar masterclass for amateur classical guitarists and serious classical guitar students Saturday, February 19 at 1 p.m. on the Gaede Stage. Both performers and audiences experience the benefits of private instruction as well as the opportunity to perform in public. This program is wonderful for solo guitarists, guitar ensembles and mixed ensembles. After each performer or group plays for the MGQ and a public audience, MGQ members offer specific instruction about how the performer(s) might improve their performance. This may include tips on: achieving more technical proficiency, developing increased musical understanding of the repertoire, more effectively projecting one’s musical ideas for a more successful and expressive performance, improving communication within an ensemble.
