Straw Hat Players High School Apprentice & Internship
We invite you to be part of The Straw Hat Players Summer Theatre Apprenticeship Program for high school juniors and seniors. We are excited about this year’s programming and you will apply. The apprenticeship program is an intensive six-week program with hands-on opportunities in our summer Straw Hat Players season.
High school interns/apprentices are selected annually to join our company of performers and technicians. Interns/apprentices will have the opportunity to audition for roles in the productions and to participate in construction, lighting, make-up, costumes and sound crews. The company meets for morning, afternoon, and evening activities seven days a week during this period. This intensive theatre experience permits professional-level stage training. Our facilities include two theatres—an 850-seat proscenium stage and a 300-seat thrust stage. Attendance at Straw Hat productions exceeds 18,000 theatregoers per summer. We think it is an ideal program for high school and college theatre students.
Our apprenticeship program is open to high school students who are currently juniors or seniors. Apprentices are paid a modest stipend, while interns are not. Arrangements can be made to stay in our supervised college dormitory. Company members could also live off-campus in homes of relatives or friends. The campus offers ala-carte meals at reasonable rates during the summer months. Several restaurants are located near the campus.
If you would like to be considered for a Straw Hat Players Summer Theatre Apprenticeship, I encourage you to participate in the Regional Auditions. For additional information, please contact Craig A. Ellingson or via cell phone at 701.388.9382.
