Art Education Courses & Curriculum
MSUM's Art Education degree is a rigorous, flexible and dynamic program designed to meet Minnesota State requirements for K-12 teacher licensure. It provides you with an opportunity to explore a breadth of two- and three-dimensional studio areas and encourages you to establish a studio emphasis in at least one art discipline. Our program also requires study in the areas of art history, art education methods, education, psychology and multicultural studies. Three art method classes are required and involve you in the study of: 1) Teaching art in elementary school classrooms, 2) Teaching art in secondary school classrooms, and 3) Training about art careers. Our advanced methods course involves leadership and vocational training where you are able to complete a service learning practicum in any of our 30+ partner agencies and organizations in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Upon completion of all course work, and to qualify for the K-12 teaching license, individuals must student teach at both the elementary and secondary levels for a total of 17 weeks.
