Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
The Dean of Students Office acknowledges that some students face barriers to enrollment and retention at the University. These barriers may range from financial need to mental health challenges, from family obligations to interpersonal violence, from homelessness to food insecurity and more. We believe that assisting students to address these challenges is imperative for them to thrive in the classroom, athletic arena, and other campus settings. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment in which all students feel heard, supported, and valued. We believe that addressing students’ basic needs (food, housing, safety, etc.) is critical to the work of the University, to transform lives. Therefore, we are committed to working with all MSUM students to:
- Access mental health and medical resources;
- Remove barriers that inhibit full participation at the University;
- Develop self-advocacy and conflict resolution skills;
- Understand the rights, responsibilities, and privileges of living and studying within the University setting;
- Navigate Basic Needs resources available to them at the University and within the greater community; and,
- Request time away from the University to address a personal concern.
