Welcome to the #DragonFamily: Payton Packer
Meet Payton Packer, the new Assistant Track & Field Coach. She specializes in training students in shotput, discus, hammer, and weight throw.
Q: What drew you to MSUM?
A: It was kind of a happy accident. I’ve been coaching throwing at a local high school and reached out to college coaches in town to learn more about certain throws in track and to chat about how they help their students. I ended up talking to the head coach here and he offered me the assistant coaching position.
Q: What is your biggest motivator as a coach?
A: Seeing the athletes succeed. Seeing the look on an athlete’s face, setting a new personal record for themselves, is the best.
Q: What’s your favorite part of the season?
A: Going to meets. It’s exciting to see everyone’s hard work come together for a great performance.
Q: If you had to choose, do you prefer breakfast, lunch, or dinner?
A: Definitely breakfast.
Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
A: Bora Bora. I have wanted to go since I was a child.
Welcome to the #DragonFamily, Payton!
