Nationally known poet, Thomas McGrath grew up in Sheldon, North Dakota. He studied at the University of North Dakota, worked for a time in New York, and earned his Masters degree in English from the University of Louisiana. In 1939, he won the Rhodes Scholarship. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army. After the war, he continued his education in England for one year. This collection consists of five boxes of photographs mainly from Moorhead, Minnesota. The first box contains negatives, contact prints, slides, and videos. Boxes two and three contain photographs of people, buildings, and scenery of Moorhead and the Red River Valley area. Many of these have corresponding negatives or slides in box one.
