Richard W. Fitzsimons was born January 19, 1922 and raised on a farm near Argyle, Minnesota. After the death of his father in 1937, Richard and his mother ran the farm. Fitzsimons was active in the 4-H Club and he helped organize the Rural Youth Program in Minnesota, serving as state president and on the National Committee.
