Douglas H. Sillers was born in Clavin, North Dakota on February 9, 1915. He was the second son of Archie and Mabel Tuthill Sillers. His two brothers were Kipling, born in 1913, and Colin, who was born in 1917. Douglas Sillers completed high school at Calvin, where his father farmed, and left home in 1933 to travel through the western states.
The West Central Regional Development Commission [WCRDC] was established in 1973 to assist local governments in planning for common needs, cooperating for mutual benefits, and coordinating programs for sound area-wide development. This collection contains the records of the Christianson Farm and familyin Hickory Township, southeast Pennington County.Christian Christianson (1862-1917) began homesteading land for the farm in 1905. The Christianson farm remained in the hands of the family for more than nine decades, varying in size from two to three quarter sections. The farm was cultivated in small grains, and the Christiansons maintained herds of dairy and beef cattle.Orville Christianson (1910-2002), the son of Christian and Olive (1880-1936) maintained the farm with his wife Gertrude from 1936 until his retirement in 1992.
John Corbid was elected to the Minnesota Legislature from District 1B in 1974 and served in the Legislature until 1980. At the time of his election Mr. Corbid was a teacher living in Oklee, Minnesota, having graduated from the University of North Dakota with a B.S. degree. Mr. Corbid later owned a resort. John Corbid and his wife, Roberta, had three children, Kevin, Rachel, and Rebecca.
Born in Hanska, Minnesota on May 8, 1903, Wilferd Anderson moved with his family to the Hitterdal, Minnesota area in 1908. Anderson’s father, H.V. Anderson, managed a grain elevator at Hitterdal until 1915 when he bought a farm in nearby Highland Grove. Wilferd Anderson worked on his father’s farm until 1931, when he married Violet Heigg and rented his own farm in Highland Grove. Subsequently buying the land, Anderson managed this farm until his retirement, raising grain and potatoes, and owning a small dairy herd. The Andersons were also active in Highland Grove community activities. Wilferd died in 1985.
The Woodman Lodge, which was located in Hitterdal, Minnesota, was part of a larger organization, The Modern Woodmen of America of Rockford, Illinois. The Lodge was started on May 20, 1920 and was known as Camp 1542. Membership was open to anyone having at least 7/8th’s white blood, was over 16 years of age and was not employed in a dangerous occupation (smoke stack painter, railroad switch breaker, mine worker, etc.).
The Tri-College Women’s Bureau was organized in 1972 by women from Moorhead State University and Concordia College, Moorhead; and North Dakota State University, Fargo. Its purpose is to bring teachers, administrators, counselors, and students an awareness of the nature of sexism in our society and the tools for eliminating sex role stereotyping and sex role socialization from the educational systems.
Unfortunately there is not much specific information on Richard Herring regarding birth dates etc., but it is known that he migrated from England with the Yeoville Colony in 1873 and they settled by Hawley and Glyndon, Minnesota. He opened a store in Lake Park, Minnesota and by 1890 he had opened a store in Hitterdal, Minnesota.
