Richard W. Fitzsimons was born January 19, 1922 and raised on a farm near Argyle, Minnesota. After the death of his father in 1937, Richard and his mother ran the farm. Norman Walz was born July 18, 1915 at Detroit Lakes, Minnesota where he grew up and attended school. He served in the United States Navy. He married Kathryn Fasching in 1937, and they had seven children. Mr. Walz was the owner operator of the Detroit Lakes Independent Oil Company from 1950-1960.
Randolph M. Probstfield was born in Prussia in 1832. He emigrated to the United States in 1852, living in Wisconsin and Michigan prior to coming to Minnesota. It is known that he worked in the lumbering business out of St. Paul and traveled through much of the country and to Latin America during the mid 1850s. In 1859, Probstfield moved to the Red River Valley area, becoming so far as to be known, as the first white settler in Clay County.
