Benjamin Franklin Mackall was born in Elkton, Maryland, October 8, 1851. He was the son of Henry Clinton and Ann W. Mackall. B.F. Mackall attended West Nottingham Academy and Georgetown College. The impact of the Civil War made it impossible to continue his education. B.F. Mackall went to Moorhead, Minnesota in 1873.

Douglas H. Sillers was born in Clavin, North Dakota on February 9, 1915. He was the second son of Archie and Mabel Tuthill Sillers. His two brothers were Kipling, born in 1913, and Colin, who was born in 1917. Douglas Sillers completed high school at Calvin, where his father farmed, and left home in 1933 to travel through the western states.
The heart of the RRVSGA collection is the transcripts of interviews conducted with several dozen individuals involved in the sugarbeet industry in the Valley. Most of those interviewed are members of the RRVSGA, although former employees of the old American Crystal Company, some migrant laborers, and a few elected officials were also interviewed. Each interview transcription is fully described in the inventory. In addition to the transcript, a tape of the interview is also available.
Life long resident of the Glyndon, Minnesota area, Keith Langseth and his wife Lorraine operate a dairy farm in Elkton Township between Glyndon and Barnesville. Langseth, who had served as Clay County DFL Chairman, was elected to the Minnesota State Legislative in 1974 when he unseated Arlan Stangeland. He continued to serve District 9B until 1978 when he failed in his re-election by eleven voters, one of the closest races in the state of Minnesota.
