Established in 1975 to actively promote the interests of wheat growers in Minnesota, the Minnesota Association of Wheat Growers is headquartered in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. It shares its facilities with a companion organization, the Minnesota Wheat Research and Promotion Council. Both organizations devote their efforts to a variety of activities including sponsoring research on wheat cultivation, promoting legislation for wheat prices and supports, marketing of Minnesota wheat in the nation and abroad, and acting as a clearing house of information for wheat farmers in the region.

The Soroptimist Club of Moorhead, Minnesota, was chartered in 1949 and became part of the Soroptimist International of the Americas Federation. Meaning "best for women," the Soroptmists of Moorhead mission statement is to "improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world enabling them to take control of their lives and live their dream."
The Kittson County Farmers Co-operative Mercantile Company of Hallock, Minnesota, was incorporated in 1904. The intent of the farmers who organized the company was to cooperatively own and operate “a general mercantile, trading, shipping, forwarding, and commission business; [to engage in] buying, selling, exchanging, and dealing in all kinds of farm produce, supplies, implements, machinery, and other articles of merchandise incidental or necessary in operating and conducting a general store; [and] to buy and sell as much real estate as is reasonably necessary in conducting its business.”

Incorporated in 1964, the Red River Valley Historical Society is “a central agency for coordinating and encouraging the preservation and making known of those aspects of Red River Basin history that would be of general concern.” The society acts as a liaison among historical groups in the Red River Valley area, including organizations in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Canada.
Neil Wohlwend was born on May 12, 1913 in Barnesville, Minnesota, to Charles and Olga (Anderson). Neil’s grandfather was a Civil War Veteran and an early pioneer in the Clay County area. He married Ramona Glasman of Pequot, Minnesota, on January 1, 1939. They had one son, Charles.Neil graduated from Moorhead State College in 1937 and did graduate work at the University of Minnesota.
