The Business and Professional Women Club of Moorhead organized in Moorhead, Minnesota in 1952. The club was dedicated to the betterment of conditions for women. It took an active interest in social, educational, economic, and political problems at both the local and national levels. The club was represented at district and state conferences.
The Agricultural Extension Service was established in Clay County, Minnesota in 1913. It continued in operation until 1922, when the county government refused to continue funding the county agent’s work. The service did not return to Clay County until after the onset of the Great Depression.
In April 1997, the Red River of the North, which marks the border between North Dakota and Minnesota, flooded. The immediate effects of the flooding were well covered by the local and national media. But the long-term difficulties of rebuilding homes, businesses, and lives after the flood receded are less well known. People who live in the Red River Valley have struggled with the challenges of flood recovery, with problems rebuilding their homes, their businesses, and their sense of security.
This collection consists of research publications, reports and photographs, and supplements the record of the Red River Valley Sugar Beet Growers Association (S4868). Prior to the acquisition of the American Crystal Sugar Company in the 1970s, by growers in Minnesota and North Dakota, the company maintained an agricultural research facility in Colorado.
