Incorporated in 1964, the Red River Valley Historical Society is “a central agency for coordinating and encouraging the preservation and making known of those aspects of Red River Basin history that would be of general concern.” The society acts as a liaison among historical groups in the Red River Valley area, including organizations in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Canada.
Neil Wohlwend was born on May 12, 1913 in Barnesville, Minnesota, to Charles and Olga (Anderson). Neil’s grandfather was a Civil War Veteran and an early pioneer in the Clay County area. He married Ramona Glasman of Pequot, Minnesota, on January 1, 1939. They had one son, Charles.Neil graduated from Moorhead State College in 1937 and did graduate work at the University of Minnesota.

The Altrusa Club of Moorhead, Minnesota, was established on March 26, 1960 as part of the Altrusa International Club network. The purpose of the organization is twofold. One, to afford a main channel through which executive, business, and professional women representing a wide variety of occupational fields but with similar civic motivations, can work together thereby making possible the promotion of their common interests, and more effectively make a contribution of their combined services to civic, national, and international understanding and betterment.

The National WCTU was organized in Cleveland, Ohio on November 18, 1874. It was the first women’s society in the world to build on the common framework of local, county, district and state affiliation under national direction.
