Study Social Work in New Zealand

Study Culturally Grounded Social Work Practice

Travel Dates: May 13 - May 31, 2024

Study Abroad in New Zealand Program Overview:

Culturally Grounded Social Work Practice: New Zealand is a three-credit spring course for Social Work students. This elective course will focus on the social, political, and cultural issues related to social work practice and human rights in both local and global contexts. While this course is not explicitly about Indigenous human rights, this will be the lens through which we look at human rights issues in our region and around the world (human trafficking, poverty, addictions, education, suicide, health, and welfare). Students will examine how the history of colonization has affected indigenous populations in relation to health and wellness, the current challenges facing these communities and the practices that are being used to work toward restoration, wellness, and resilience.
