Our student musicians are eager to share their talents and make your event truly memorable.

What Type of Performers Can I Hire?

The following are examples of types of performers you might hire; this is not intended to be a comprehensive list of actual performers.

Small groups (1-4 Performers):

  • Solo vocal, pianist, guitarist, woodwind, or string player
  • Brass, woodwind, or string duo, trio, or quartets
  • Singer-guitarists or singer-pianists (duos)

Medium Sized Groups (4-8 Performers):

  • Various acoustic music combos. (Examples: A guitar, bass player, box drum, and singer OR a keyboard, bass, and vocalist)
  • Jazz combos (Example: Keyboard, Bass, Drums, Winds)
  • Cover bands

If you’re hiring a cover band (5-6 Members) for an event, plan for a 12–16 ft wide stage area and a dedicated 120V electrical circuit at minimum, with more space and power for a larger band.

Larger Groups (Over 8 Performers):

  • Dragon Scales (Vocal Jazz)
  • SolFire (Vocal Pop A Cappella)
  • Carolers (Vocal-Seasonal)
  • Poco Fuego (Steel Drums) recommended for outdoor or loud events

Music Student Performance Referral Disclaimer (*)

Minnesota State University Moorhead (“MSUM”) provides this form solely as a resource to facilitate connections between individuals, organizations, businesses, or other interested parties (“Requestor”) and undergraduate students who may be interested in performing music at events or other engagements.

MSUM’s role is limited to facilitating an initial connection between the Requestor and a potential student performer. MSUM is not a party to any agreement or arrangement between the Requestor and the student performer and does not act as the student performer’s agent, representative, employer, booking agency, or manager.

Any agreement for a performance is solely between the Requestor and the student performer. The Requestor and student performer are responsible for discussing and establishing all terms of the engagement, including the date, time, location, services to be provided, compensation, payment, cancellation, transportation, equipment, and any other applicable terms.

MSUM does not negotiate or guarantee the terms of any performance agreement and does not collect, process, guarantee, or administer payment or compensation for performances arranged through this form. Any payment or other compensation is solely the responsibility of the Requestor and the student performer.

MSUM does not endorse or guarantee any particular student performer and makes no representations or warranties regarding a student performer’s availability, qualifications, experience, performance, conduct, or suitability for a particular event or engagement.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, MSUM and Minnesota State are not responsible or liable for any injury, loss, damage, expense, payment, dispute, cancellation, breach of agreement, or other claim arising from or related to a performance or other arrangement between the Requestor and a student performer. The Requestor and student performer are responsible for determining and satisfying any applicable legal, contractual, insurance, tax, licensing, permitting, safety, or other requirements associated with their engagement.

By submitting this form, the Requestor acknowledges that MSUM’s involvement is limited to facilitating a potential connection with an undergraduate student performer and that any resulting engagement is solely between the Requestor and the student performer.

This referral does not constitute an endorsement, sponsorship, or recommendation by Minnesota State University Moorhead of the Requestor, the student performer, or the proposed engagement.
