Graduate Studies Transcript Requirements

Official transcripts are required for full admission to all graduate degree and certificate programs.

During the application process, unofficial transcripts are required from all institutions you list on your application for a conditional admission decision. If you attended MSUM or other Minnesota State system institutions, you may retrieve your unofficial transcripts from eServices for your application.

Upon admission, you must request official transcripts from your degree-conferring institutions and any other transcripts listing graduate coursework approved by the graduate program as substitutions. Official transcripts can be requested through Parchment or the National Student Clearinghouse and sent directly to processing@mnstate.edu.

  • Students with degrees or graduate credits issued by MSUM or MN State System institutions do not need to request official transcripts. The admission team will do this on your behalf.
  • Students who have been approved to transfer graduate credits by their graduate programs must request official transcripts from the issuing institution before these can be reviewed and approved by the Registrar.
  • Official transcripts issued to you will only be accepted if they remain in a signed and sealed envelope from the institution.
  • Official transcripts are maintained by the Registrar's Office after admission and become the property of Minnesota State Moorhead; they cannot be returned to the student or sent to another university.

Degree Verification

  • Master’s degree programs and graduate certificate programs require the completion of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Degree verification is only done with the receipt of an official degree transcript from the degree‐granting institution.
    • If your degree is not complete at the time of your application, you will be required to order an additional degree transcript after your degree is posted.
    • Admission offers prior to degree completion cannot be finalized until the degree is verified.
    • Registration for courses is not permitted until admission is finalized.
  • Admission to a Specialist program requires the completion of a master’s degree.
