What Is “MSUM Giving Day?”

MSUM Giving Day is a one-day fundraising campaign that the MSUM Foundation organizes to generate awareness, find new donors, and raise money to support the university.

Why Do Giving Days Work?

Giving day events work because they focus everyone with an affinity for MSUM with one simple task: raise as much money as possible in a single day. Giving days allow for alumni, board, faculty and staff, current students, corporate partners and volunteers to participate in a myriad of ways: giving, fundraising, promoting, and thanking.

Giving days also incentivize giving by creating a sense of urgency because there is a very specific timeline to participate and donors have the opportunity to double the impact of their gift thanks to matches and challenges provided by generous donors. Here are a couple examples:

Match: For every gift made to a scholarship, John & Jane Doe will match $1 for $1 up to $5,000.

Challenge: UNLOCK $1,000 when 25 donors make a gift to Economics.

On November 16, 2023, participate and follow the progress of this event throughout the day on mnstate.edu/givingday

How Do I Give?

There are a few different ways to give and make your gift count as part of MSUM Giving Day:

• Make a gift online on mnstate.edu/givingday on November 16, 2023.
• Give in response to phonathon efforts during the month of October.
• Mail in a gift in response to the MSUM Giving Day mailer.
• Give through payroll deduction if you are a current employee of MSUM.
• Call 218.477.2143 and the Foundation can run a credit card on your behalf.
• ANY gifts received on November 16 will count towards the final tally.

How Can I Help?

Through you — our ambassadors — we have the power to make a difference. Help support the causes that resonate with you most by sharing your unique voice on social media, through e-mails and word-of-mouth leading up to and on MSUM Giving Day.

Sample Social Media Messages:

• I support #MSUMGivingDay because [insert reason]. Will you join me? mnstate.edu/givingday
• MSUM transformed my life by [insert reason], and that’s why I support #MSUMGivingDay. Visit mnstate.edu/givingday and share your reason for giving!
• I’m a proud MSUM [insert year & major] grad, which is why I’m supporting [insert cause] during this year’s #MSUMGivingDay. Visit mnstate.edu/givingday to support them, too!
• MSUM made a huge difference in my life. [Insert reason]. That’s why I want to make a difference in the lives of MSUM students. Will you join me in transforming lives on #MSUMGivingDay?
• Will you join me in supporting [insert cause or MSUM] on #MSUMGivingDay on November 16? Visit mnstate.edu/givingday to learn how you can participate.

MSUM GIVING DAY will soon be here!

On November 16, join alumni, students, friends, and fellow co-workers for the annual 24-hour online giving event known as MSUM Giving Day. With thousands of dollars available in matching gifts and challenges, there are multiple ways to maximize the impact of your gift to the scholarship, program, or project of your choosing.

• By making a one-time gift or a sustainable gift through payroll deduction, check by mail, or online at mnstate.edu/givingday, you will be entered into a drawing for $1,000 toward the fund of your choice.
• By posting a picture of yourself decked in “Dragon Swag” on Facebook, you could win $500 toward the fund of your choice.
• By making a gift in support of the campaign for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, your gift will be matched 2x with a gift to the James and Yvonne Condell Endowed Scholarship fund.

These are just a few examples of how participation can really make a difference. For an up-to-date list of social media challenges, matching gifts, drawings, and power hours scheduled, go to mnstate.edu/giving day.

There are many ways to give back to MSUM. When deciding how and where you would like to make your annual charitable contributions, consider making a tax-deductible gift in support of the students at MSUM on MSUM Giving Day, November 16.
