Dragons Who Serve: Jon Bauer
Veterans Day honors those who have served in the United States military. MSUM recognizes the courageous efforts of the people who have dedicated their lives to protecting our freedom and rights. Many students, staff, and faculty on campus have served in this way. This week we recognize a few individuals for their sacrifice and service.
Today we honor Jonathan Bauer, a second-year animation major at MSUM. Originally from Montgomery, Minn., Jonathan served in the Army for three and a half years in active duty as a wheeled vehicle mechanic and wrecker operator. He first served in Camp Casey, South Korea, then Fort Drum, New York.
One of his favorite experiences while serving was his time in South Korea because he was able to explore the country and experience its culture. “Also, I felt that my job had more purpose, and I was able to gain more experience,” says Jonathan.
Jonathan joined right after high school and despite being out of the service for a few years now, his experience continues to influence him. The military prepared him to interact with people from vastly different backgrounds. It also helped guide him into a career path because before serving, he had no plans to attend college.
He does not celebrate Veterans Day but wants people to know that each service member’s experiences are unique.
On behalf of MSUM, thank you for your service to this country and we wish you all the best in your academic career!
