Digital creator builds community through storytelling and outreach

As former editor and photographer of Fargo Monthly (recently rebranded to Meet Fargo), storyteller Geneva Nodland had a front row seat to every corner of the FMWF community. Known for her genuine curiosity and commitment to community, she describes the magazine as a “love letter” to her neighbors. “I am proud today that every story I shared is a success in my book.”

Accolades followed as Geneva was recognized with multiple American Advertising Federation of North Dakota (AAF-ND) ADDY Awards. She also serves as a board member and MarComm Committee Chair for the North Dakota and North-Western Minnesota organization dedicated to promoting the wellbeing of advertising.

Geneva is recognized for her professional leadership and community building as an MSUM Foundation 2026 10 Under 10 Awardee.

Geneva speaking in front of a group of people

The multimedia journalism graduate recently transitioned from publishing to agency work as a digital creator with AdShark, a local marketing and e-commerce agency. There, Geneva strategizes and creates ad campaigns for a variety of clients and continues to build community by leading the company’s philanthropic and engagement efforts.

Jack Yakowicz, director of operations at AdShark, shares: “We saw the heart in Geneva so quickly that we almost immediately appointed her to the position of Community Committee Chair, where she helps oversee all of our company’s philanthropic activities and activism.”

Not only does Geneva oversee the firm’s volunteer efforts, but she is also a decision-maker for what the company supports and sponsors. “I am helping to dictate how my team shows up for our community; I do not take this responsibility lightly, and again, am honored to be in this role,” she says.

Whether she’s speaking to college classes, mentoring young professionals or attending community events, Geneva makes it a personal goal to meet at least one new person everywhere she goes. “Random opportunities to connect two people are what I thrive on,” she says.

Connection also fuels another of her passions: storytelling through photography. Her website features a diverse portfolio, including product, portrait, senior and family photography, all showcasing her ability to capture authentic moments.
