The Traveling Trunk Program from the Minnesota Military & Veterans Museum brings history to life. Each trunk focuses on a specific war and contains an assortment of items—original or reproduction—that would have been commonly used by soldiers during that time in our nation's history.

 

One Book One Community: Veterans' Masks Display

One Book One Community: Veterans' Masks Display

One of the themes in this year's One Book, One Community is Veterans dealing with trauma. To raise awareness for Veterans' mental health issues, masks made by Veterans from the Fargo VA Health Care System. Each mask visually represents a Veteran's experiences and comes with personal stories. You can find our display on the 1st floor of the library across the circulation desk. Facebook

The Veterans Success Team invites you to stop by the newly renamed Veteran, Service Member and Family Success Center (King 149) to familiarize yourself with the space and resources available. Open to all students, faculty and staff but will be most relevant to those who are military connected (Veterans, Service Members, and Family Members).

  • Join the Dragon Student Veterans Club, an on-campus student organization to connect with others
  • Meet your fellow MSUM student Veterans
  • Meet the MSUM Veteran Success Team
  • Receive assistance with Veteran educational benefits
  • Receive referrals for on and off-campus services and resources
  • And yes, as always, there will be FREE SNACKS.

VA S.A.V.E. Training

VA S.A.V.E. Training: Suicide Prevention is a free, brief online or in-person course that will help you act with care and compassion if you come across a Veteran who is in crisis or having thoughts of suicide. The acronym S.A.V.E. helps you remember the important steps involved in suicide prevention:

  • S - Know the Signs that indicate a Veteran might be thinking about suicide
  • A - Ask the most important question of all — “Are you thinking of killing yourself?”
  • V - Validate the Veteran’s experience
  • E - Encourage treatment and Expedite getting help

One Book One Community: MSUM During WWII

Join the Livingston Lord Library and Larry Shellito Veteran Success Center for a free presentation on the experiences of the campus (then Moorhead State Teachers College) during WWII featuring photographs, newspapers, yearbooks, and other artifacts courtesy of the MSUM Archives. Audience members will also hear about the various resources and programs the Veteran Success Center has to offer. Facebook Event

Brad Schenck, Retired Moorhead Police Officer, Marine Veteran, and Author of No Easy Way Out shares the biography he wrote for his family while he battles brain cancer.

Zak Amin, Moorhead Teacher and Dragon Alum will be sharing about his time as a Translator in the Iraq War.
